Foxy Lavender

Winter is here and we are taking a bit of a rest. The snow has prevented us from doing any more landscaping. However the crew that is building the drying shed is working whether there is rain, snow or sun shine. It should be done this week. We will paint the trim green in the spring to match Poppy's Garden shed.

My Dad has made a little friend. This is the Lavender Fox. He loves fried chicken. He comes around the same time every day to eat scraps. Next year when we get a "mousing" cat I hope that the fox does not think "kitty" on the menu.

Winter event pictures

Here are a few pictures from a couple of our winter events. The first four are from our Artisan Harvest Open House in Eden, Utah. Lavender Hill along with 4 other "Artisans" provided an array of options. The last one is from the Hill Air Force OSC bazaar.

New Products

We are always trying to improve our product line. Here are a few things we have added or changed. Lavender Peppermint Twist lip gloss, culinary lavender for cooking and a new glass bottle for our bath salts. And don't forget to gift wrap it in a purple box that is full of purple sizzle.

Poppy's Shed

With the help of the grant money we are building 2 sheds. The first is Poppy's shed. It will double as our greenhouse and potting shed. The other is the Drying shed. It will double as a production area and drying shed. It will have a work space and open rafters to hang and dry bundles. Poppy's shed is done. My dad got the roof done just in time for the first snow. We also got the weed barrier and gravel laid on Phase 2 before the first snow. So much to do before winter shuts us out completely. We tried to make Poppy's shed look like it had been there for a long time. We used an old door and window and antique hardware and accents.

Pictures from Zions Bank Grant reception

It was very exciting to meet all of the board members of Zions Bank Women's branch. They were the ones that read through all of the grant applications. There were 3 winners in Idaho and 4 in Utah out of 145 submissions. I saved my big check to hang on the wall in our Lavender Office. It is a constant reminder to be grateful for the opportunities we are granted and to not forget to return the favor.

Yes, I know...

Out of all the weekends this is the weekend they decide to close the canyon and shut the power off. But we shall go on. Our Artisan Harvest Event is still on schedule. I am making Lavender Lemon cookies right now for refreshments. And to put your minds at ease we are fully prepared for the power outage. We will have candles for mood lighting and a wood burning stove for cozy comfort. Not to mention tasty treats and warm coffee. Just click on the flyer to read times and location. See ya there!

Fall Garden

Because Eden gets winter a little before the Valley we had to complete all of our "winterizing" this past week. The transplanting, planting, trimming and splitting are all done.

Here is a picture of what we call a "Turtle Mound". We suggest to all lavender owners to hedge down your lavender every fall. This ensures a dense regrowth for the next year and it prevents it from splitting in the center.
Our Kiwi finally took off! (They are Alaskan Kiwis-so they will survive the winter)

Our focus now is to get a roof and walls on the garden shed before it snows. We are saying our prayers that there are a few more nice days so we can get it all done. (the bugs are praying too)

Greetings from Illinois,

I was lucky enough to purchase some of your wonderful soaps while out in Utah this last week. Is there a way to order online? Thanks for any assistance you can provide. The product is one of the best I have used in years.

The Garden Shed

My dad is amazing. He is the Brains and the Buff to our family business. He has owned many companies over the years from building houses to building the fastest fishing boat in the world. So, when Lavender Hill needed a shed/greenhouse, he was our guy! He is an Engineer, so he is able to "customize" the garden shed with all of the special details that my mom "requests". Here are a few pictures of his progress. The corner posts, gravel for the base interior, walls, Ed himself and the roof trusses.

Harvest Moon on 25th Street

Harvest Moon was Amazing. The bike races, the skateboard ramp and the fun events for the kids. There was a band or a singer on every block. There was pumpkin painting, face painting, basket ball, you name it. Our booth was by the Federal building, so we were able to watch the races all morning. Kudos to the event coordinators!

25th Street Market

We have found a little corner (right next to the band stage) at the 25th Street Farmer's Market. Every Saturday there are hundreds of people buying fresh produce and hand made crafts. The morning starts with yoga classes, Master Gardeners giving plant advice, cooking demonstrations and then last, music. It is sad that October 3rd will be the last market day for the season.

Taste Of Ogden

This summer we attended the Taste of Ogden at Wolf Mountain. An event for your taste buds. Local resturants served samples of thier menue for just a few dollars. This was the weekend where we debued our Lavender Dark Chocolate. Yummm!
